Cellulite Treatment

Acoustic wave therapy for smoother, firmer-looking skin, with no needles and no downtime.

Acoustic wave therapy sends rapid pulses of energy through a handheld applicator into the areas where cellulite shows. It wakes up circulation and lymph flow and works on the connective tissue under the skin, for a smoother, firmer look over a series of sessions.

Cellulite Treatment equipment at MK Wellness Spa

Almost every woman has some cellulite at some point, at any size. It forms where fat pushes up between bands of connective tissue under the skin, and circulation, lymph flow, hormones, and collagen all play a part.

At MK Wellness, we work on the parts we can influence: circulation, lymph, and the connective tissue itself. We use professional acoustic wave therapy (also called shockwave therapy), delivered through a handheld applicator.

It pairs beautifully with our body sculpting and lymphatic therapies, and with the basics that matter most for cellulite: movement, hydration, protein, and real food.

The Science & Research

For the curious: how Cellulite Treatment works in the body, the studies behind it, and the areas researchers are exploring. Tap a topic to open it.

How it works in the body

Acoustic waves are rapid pulses of mechanical energy. The applicator sends them through the skin into the tissue underneath, where they stimulate circulation and lymph flow and remodel the connective tissue. In studies, a series of acoustic wave sessions made skin firmer and more elastic and visibly smoothed cellulite.

Rapid pulses of energy reach the fat and connective tissue under the skin

Better microcirculation and lymph flow in the treated area

A denser, firmer network of collagen and elastic fibers on ultrasound

Research & clinical evidence (5 studies)

A Review of 11 Clinical Trials

A 2015 meta-analysis gathered 11 clinical trials of acoustic wave (shockwave) therapy for cellulite in 297 women, including 5 randomized controlled trials (International Journal of Surgery, 2015).

  • ·Both radial and focused acoustic wave devices improved cellulite
  • ·The studies typically used 6 to 8 sessions, once or twice a week

A Placebo-Controlled Trial

In a small double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, women with cellulite had 8 weekly acoustic wave treatments or a sham treatment (Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy, 2013).

  • ·A 3D skin scanner measured significantly smoother skin in the treatment group, and not in the placebo group
  • ·Patients reported fewer and shallower dimples and firmer skin
  • ·No side effects were seen

Firmer, More Elastic Skin

59 women with advanced cellulite had 6 to 8 acoustic wave sessions over 3 to 4 weeks (Aesthetic Surgery Journal, 2008).

  • ·Skin elasticity rose 73% by the end of treatment, 95% at 3 months, and 105% at 6 months
  • ·Ultrasound showed a denser, firmer network of collagen and elastic fibers
  • ·It worked best in older women with long-standing cellulite
View Study — PubMed ↗

Less Severe Cellulite and Smaller Hips

30 women with moderate or severe cellulite had 12 acoustic wave sessions on the buttocks and backs of the thighs over 6 weeks (Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy, 2017).

  • ·The share of women with severe cellulite fell from 60% to 38%
  • ·Hip measurements and the fat layer under the skin both decreased
  • ·89% were satisfied with their results, and more than 90% would do it again

Even Better With Exercise

In a randomized trial, 45 young women did an aerobic exercise program with or without radial shockwave therapy, six sessions over 3 weeks (Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 2021).

  • ·Adding shockwave therapy to exercise reduced cellulite severity more than exercise alone
