Before and After Stem Cells: How to Prime Your Body and Support Your Recovery
Stem cells work in the body you bring them into. Here's how to prepare your terrain in the weeks before regenerative therapy, and how MK Wellness helps support your body afterward.
MK Wellness InsightsFounded by Danielle Cordova, Cypress, TXStem cells don't work in a vacuum. Once they're in your body, they respond to the environment around them: how much inflammation is present, how well blood and oxygen are flowing, how stable your blood sugar is, how well you're sleeping, and how much stress your nervous system is carrying. That environment is the terrain, and it's where MK Wellness shines.
Think of it like planting a garden. The seeds matter, and so does the soil. A regenerative provider brings the seeds. Our job is to help you prepare the soil before, and tend it after.
This guide shares how we approach that at MK Wellness. For stem cell therapy itself, we refer our clients to Dr. Tina Hills and her practice, PHMX. Always follow your regenerative provider's specific instructions for timing, and check with them before adding any therapy around your treatment.
Why the Terrain Matters
Mesenchymal stem cells work largely by sending signals: calming inflammation, balancing the immune system, and encouraging repair. The body they arrive in shapes how well they can do that:
- Chronic inflammation creates a harsher environment for new cells.
- High blood sugar and insulin resistance increase inflammation and oxidative stress. See Dr. Bikman on insulin resistance.
- Poor circulation and oxygen delivery limit how well nutrients and signals reach tissue.
- Poor sleep and chronic stress keep the body out of its rest-and-repair mode.
- Toxins, smoking, and alcohol add to oxidative stress.
The good news: every one of these can be improved in the weeks before treatment.
Phase 1: Priming the Body (The Weeks Before)
Many people start preparing four to six weeks ahead. Here's how we think about it.
At Home
- Eat to calm inflammation: protein, colorful vegetables, fruit, and healthy fats, with fewer processed foods, seed oils, and added sugar. Our nutrition guide and inflammation article cover the basics.
- Stabilize blood sugar: protein at every meal and fewer sugar spikes.
- Hydrate well, with minerals, not just water.
- Prioritize sleep: seven to nine hours, dark and cool. See what affects sleep most.
- Support your gut, since so much of immune balance starts there. See how to repair, then rebuild the gut.
- Cut back on alcohol and avoid smoking and vaping.
- Get morning sunlight to set your circadian rhythm. See our take on sunlight.
- Ask your provider about medications and supplements, including anti-inflammatory pain relievers, which some regenerative providers ask patients to pause around treatment.
At MK Wellness
These are the therapies we use to help prepare the terrain:
- Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen: supports oxygen delivery to tissue. Research on hyperbaric oxygen at higher medical pressures has found it can increase the number of stem and progenitor cells circulating in the blood, which is part of why hyperbaric oxygen is so popular in regenerative circles.
- Full Body Red Light Therapy: supports mitochondrial energy and helps calm inflammation. Laboratory research on photobiomodulation has shown effects on stem cell growth and activity.
- PEMF Therapy: supports circulation and cellular energy. Laboratory studies have explored how electromagnetic fields influence stem cell behavior.
- EWOT: exercise with oxygen to boost circulation and oxygenation.
- Infrared Sauna and HOCATT Ozone Sauna: support circulation, sweating, and detox in the weeks leading up to treatment.
- Lymphatic Roller: supports lymph flow and helps reduce fluid and inflammatory buildup.
- NeuroVizr Sound Lounge: helps shift the nervous system into rest-and-repair.
We'll build a priming plan around your goals and your treatment date.
Phase 2: Around Your Treatment Days
This is the time to rest and follow your regenerative provider's instructions closely. Many providers give specific guidance about activity, heat, cold, and anti-inflammatory medications in the days right before and after treatment, so check with yours before scheduling any therapy during this window.
- Hydrate and eat well, with plenty of protein.
- Rest and sleep.
- Keep stress low. Gentle, calming therapies are usually the best fit here, once your provider says it's okay.
Phase 3: Supporting Your Body After Treatment (Weeks to Months)
Regeneration unfolds over weeks and months, so this is where consistent support matters most. Once your provider clears you, these are the therapies we use to support recovery:
- Red Light Therapy and PEMF: gentle support for cellular energy, circulation, and the tissue being repaired.
- Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen: ongoing oxygen support for healing tissue.
- Compression Therapy and the Lymphatic Roller: support circulation and lymph flow, especially helpful for joints and limbs.
- Nano Vi, Compression, and Mitolux: support against oxidative stress.
- NeuroVizr Sound Lounge: keeps the nervous system in rest-and-repair mode, where healing happens.
- BioCharger: gentle, multi-frequency energy support.
- Infrared sauna and cold therapy: check with your provider on timing, since some prefer patients wait before heavy heat or cold.
At Home After Treatment
- Keep the foundations going: protein, vegetables, fruit, hydration, and sleep.
- Molecular hydrogen, like the DrinkHRW tablets we use, for everyday antioxidant support.
- LifeWave X39, a non-invasive patch designed to support the body's own stem cell activity.
- Gentle movement as your provider allows, building up gradually.
- Track how you feel: energy, pain, mobility, sleep, and mood, so you and your provider can see your progress.
Our Regenerative Support Plans
Whether you're preparing for treatment or recovering from it, we'll build a plan around your treatment date and your goals, and keep it going through the months when regeneration is doing its work. Many clients use a membership to cover regular sessions before and after treatment.
